Welcome to Sano. This Privacy Policy explains how Sano ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your personal information when you access or use the Sano mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By downloading, installing, or using the Sano app, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please discontinue your use of the Service immediately.

 

Sano is a social video call platform designed exclusively for users who are 18 years of age or older. We are committed to respecting your privacy and maintaining the highest standards of data protection in compliance with applicable global privacy regulations, including but not limited to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable laws.

 

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly, information generated through your use of the Service, and information obtained from third-party sources. The categories of information we collect include the following:

 

1.1 Account Registration Information

When you create a Sano account, we collect certain personally identifiable information, including:

 Full name or display name chosen by you

 Date of birth (to verify that you are 18 years of age or older)

 Email address

 Phone number (if provided for verification purposes)

 Profile photograph and any additional profile media you upload

 Username and password (stored in encrypted form)

 Gender identity (optional, as selected by you)

 Preferred language and region settings

 

1.2 User-Generated Content (UGC)

The Sano platform enables you to share content with other users. We collect and process the following types of user-generated content:

 Video and audio streams transmitted during live video calls

 Text messages, emojis, stickers, and other content sent via our in-app chat feature

 Profile bios, captions, and any descriptive content you add to your profile

 Reactions, comments, and interactions with other users' content

 Media files (photos, videos) shared within conversations or posted to your profile

 Reports and feedback you submit regarding other users or content

 

1.3 Device and Technical Information

We automatically collect technical data when you access or use the Service, including:

 Device identifiers (IDFA, GAID, or other advertising identifiers)

 Device model, operating system version, and hardware specifications

 IP address and inferred geographic region

 Mobile network carrier and connection type (Wi-Fi, LTE, 5G)

 App version, build number, and installation date

 Crash logs, error reports, and performance diagnostics

 Browser type (if accessing via a web interface)

 

1.4 Location Information

We may collect location data to provide location-based features and to improve the relevance of user recommendations. Specifically:

 Approximate location inferred from your IP address (used by default)

 Precise GPS location data, only if you explicitly grant permission through your device settings

 Country and city-level data used for content moderation, legal compliance, and user matching

You may disable location access at any time through your device settings. Note that certain features may be limited if precise location is disabled.

 

1.5 Usage and Behavioral Data

We collect information about how you interact with the Sano platform:

 Pages, screens, and features accessed within the app

 Duration of video calls, session times, and frequency of use

 Users viewed, matched, called, or messaged

 Actions taken such as liking, following, reporting, or blocking

 Random match requests initiated and accepted

 Search queries and filter preferences within the app

 

1.6 Payment and Transaction Information

If you purchase premium features or virtual goods within the Sano app, we or our authorized payment processors may collect:

 Transaction amount, currency, and purchase timestamp

 Payment method type (e.g., credit card, Google Play billing)

 Billing address (if required for tax or legal purposes)

We do not store full credit card numbers or sensitive financial data directly. All payment transactions are processed through secure, PCI-DSS-compliant third-party payment processors.

 

1.7 Communications with Sano

When you contact our support team or submit feedback, we collect:

 The content of your messages and attached files

 Your contact details and account information for verification

 Records of our responses and resolution history

 

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the purposes set out below. Our use of your data is grounded in one or more lawful bases, including your consent, the performance of our contract with you, our legitimate business interests, and compliance with applicable legal obligations.

 

2.1 Service Delivery and Core Functionality

 Creating, authenticating, and managing your Sano account

 Enabling live 1v1 video calls with recommended users and random matches

 Facilitating text chat between users

 Processing random matching requests and returning suitable user pairings

 Delivering in-app notifications, alerts, and messages

 Syncing your preferences and settings across devices

 

2.2 Personalization and Recommendations

 Analyzing your usage patterns to improve user matching and recommendation algorithms

 Tailoring the content and users shown on your discovery feed

 Remembering your preferences and customizations

 Providing personalized push notifications about potential matches or new features

 

2.3 Safety, Moderation, and Compliance

 Detecting, investigating, and preventing prohibited activities including harassment, fraud, hate speech, and exploitation

 Reviewing flagged or reported content and taking appropriate enforcement actions

 Verifying that users meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years

 Complying with applicable laws, regulations, subpoenas, and lawful government requests

 Enforcing our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines

 

2.4 Analytics and Product Improvement

 Monitoring app performance, crashes, and technical errors

 Conducting internal research and analysis to improve features and the overall user experience

 Running A/B tests and evaluating new product concepts

 Understanding aggregate trends in how users interact with the platform

 

2.5 Marketing and Communications

 Sending you promotional emails, in-app messages, or push notifications about Sano features (where you have given consent or where permitted by law)

 Informing you of changes to our policies, terms, or services

 Responding to your inquiries, support requests, or complaints

 

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. However, we may share your information in the following limited circumstances:

 

3.1 With Other Users

Certain profile information is visible to other users of the platform by design, including your display name, profile photo, bio, and approximate location (e.g., country or city). Video and audio content you transmit during a live call is visible and audible to your call partner in real time. Text messages are delivered to the intended recipient. You can control certain aspects of your visibility through your privacy settings.

 

3.2 With Service Providers and Vendors

We engage trusted third-party companies and individuals to support the operation of Sano. These service providers are contractually obligated to use your data solely for the purposes specified by Sano and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Such providers include:

 Cloud infrastructure and hosting providers (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud)

 Video and audio streaming technology providers

 Analytics platforms (e.g., Firebase Analytics, Amplitude)

 Customer support and helpdesk software providers

 Email and push notification delivery services

 Fraud detection and identity verification vendors

 Payment processors (e.g., Google Play Billing, Stripe)

 

3.3 For Legal and Safety Reasons

We may disclose your information if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to:

 Enforce our Terms of Service or investigate potential violations

 Detect, prevent, or address fraud, security issues, or technical problems

3.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or a portion of Sano's assets, your personal information may be transferred as part of the transaction. We will notify you via email and/or prominent notice within the app before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

 

3.5 Aggregated and Anonymized Data

We may share aggregated, de-identified, or anonymized data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you with third parties for research, marketing, analytics, or other business purposes.

 

4. User-Generated Content (UGC) Policy

Sano is a platform centered around user-generated content including video streams, audio conversations, text messages, and profile media. This section explains how such content is handled.

 

4.1 Content Ownership

You retain ownership of the content you create and share on Sano. By submitting content to the platform, you grant Sano a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, display, and distribute your content solely for the purposes of operating, improving, and promoting the Service.

 

4.2 Content Storage and Retention

Text messages may be stored on our servers for a period necessary to provide the messaging service and comply with legal obligations. Live video call streams are not recorded or stored by default. Profile media and photos are stored on our secure cloud infrastructure. We may retain content that has been flagged or reported as part of a moderation review, for as long as necessary to resolve the matter.

 

4.3 Content Moderation and Enforcement

Sano employs a combination of automated moderation tools and human review teams to detect and remove content that violates our Community Guidelines. Prohibited content includes but is not limited to:

 Nudity, sexually explicit material, or content of a pornographic nature

 Content that promotes violence, self-harm, or dangerous behavior

 Hate speech targeting individuals based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or other protected characteristics

 Harassment, threats, or intimidation directed at other users

 Spam, phishing, scams, or deceptive content

 Any content that violates applicable laws or third-party intellectual property rights

Violations may result in content removal, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination, depending on severity.

 

4.4 Intellectual Property and Copyright

You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions to submit the content you share on Sano. If you believe your copyrighted material has been used on Sano without authorization, please contact us at service@sano.support with a description of the infringing content, your contact details, and a statement of ownership.

 

5. Children's Privacy and Child Protection

5.1 Age Restriction

Sano is strictly intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect, use, or store personal information from individuals under the age of 18. During registration, all users are required to confirm their date of birth. If we become aware that a user under the age of 18 has created an account, we will take immediate steps to delete the account and all associated data.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has used Sano without your consent, please contact us immediately at service@sano.support. We will investigate and promptly remove the account.

 

5.2 Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE)

Sano has a zero-tolerance policy toward any content or behavior that constitutes child sexual abuse or exploitation (CSAE). We strictly prohibit:

 The creation, distribution, transmission, or storage of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form

 Any communication that solicits, grooms, or attempts to exploit minors

 Any attempt to use Sano to gain inappropriate access to individuals under the age of 18

 Any content that sexualizes individuals who are, or appear to be, minors

We actively use automated detection technologies and work with law enforcement agencies and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to identify and report CSAE-related content. Any user found to be engaging in such behavior will have their account permanently terminated, and their information will be reported to the appropriate authorities in accordance with applicable law.

If you encounter any content or behavior on Sano that you believe constitutes child abuse or exploitation, please report it immediately within the app or by emailing service@sano.support.

 

6. Data Storage and International Transfers

6.1 Data Storage Location

Sano stores user data on secure cloud servers that may be located in various jurisdictions around the world, including but not limited to the United States and the European Union. The specific location of data storage may depend on your region and our infrastructure providers.

 

6.2 International Data Transfers

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws governing international transfers, your data may be transferred to countries that do not provide the same level of protection as your home country. When such transfers occur, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including:

 Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission

 Binding Corporate Rules where applicable

 Adequacy decisions by the relevant data protection authority

 

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide you with our services. Specifically:

 Active account data is retained for the duration of your membership

 After account deletion, most personal data is deleted within 30 days, subject to legal hold obligations

 Certain information (such as transaction records and legal correspondence) may be retained for up to 7 years for legal and compliance purposes

 Aggregated, anonymized data may be retained indefinitely as it no longer identifies you

 Content flagged for moderation or legal investigation may be retained until the matter is fully resolved

 

8. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:

 

8.1 Right to Access

You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. You may access much of your data directly through your in-app account settings.

 

8.2 Right to Correction

You may update or correct inaccurate or incomplete information by editing your account profile at any time within the app.

 

8.3 Right to Deletion

You may request the deletion of your account and associated personal data by navigating to Settings > Account > Delete Account within the app, or by contacting us at service@sano.support. Certain data may be retained as permitted or required by applicable law.

 

8.4 Right to Withdraw Consent

Where we process your data based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal. To withdraw consent, update your preferences in the app settings or contact us directly.

 

8.5 Right to Data Portability

Where technically feasible and required by law, you may request a structured, machine-readable copy of your personal data.

 

8.6 Right to Object or Restrict Processing

In certain circumstances, you may object to or request that we restrict the processing of your personal information, particularly where processing is based on our legitimate interests.

 

8.7 How to Exercise Your Rights

To exercise any of the rights described above, please contact us at service@sano.support with the subject line "Privacy Rights Request." We will respond to verifiable requests within 30 days or as required by applicable law. We may ask you to verify your identity before processing your request.

 

9. Security of Your Information

We take the security of your personal information seriously and implement a range of technical, organizational, and administrative safeguards to protect your data, including:

 End-to-end and transport-layer encryption (TLS/SSL) for data in transit

 Encryption of sensitive data at rest using industry-standard algorithms

 Access controls ensuring only authorized personnel can access personal data

10. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Sano and its third-party service providers may use cookies, pixel tags, SDKs, and similar tracking technologies to collect usage data and improve the Service. Specifically:

 Session cookies: used to maintain your login state during a session

 Persistent cookies: used to remember your preferences across sessions

 Analytics SDKs: used to collect aggregate usage data and crash reports

 Advertising identifiers: used to deliver relevant promotional content and measure ad performance (where permitted by your device settings)

You may opt out of interest-based advertising by adjusting your device's advertising settings ("Limit Ad Tracking" on iOS or "Opt out of Ads Personalization" on Android). You can also manage cookie preferences within the app settings where applicable.

 

11. Third-Party Links and Services

The Sano app may contain links to third-party websites, services, or social platforms. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you visit. Sano is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of such services.

 

12. Push Notifications

Sano may send push notifications to your device to inform you of new matches, messages, activity updates, or product announcements. You may manage your notification preferences at any time through your device settings or within the Sano app under Settings > Notifications. Disabling notifications does not affect the core functionality of the Service.

 

13. In-App Permissions

To deliver a full-featured experience, Sano may request the following device permissions:

 Camera: required for live video calls

 Microphone: required for audio during video calls

 Photo Library / Media Storage: required to upload profile photos and share media

 Location: optional; used to improve matching and display approximate location information

 Contacts: optional; only used if you choose to invite friends via your contact list

 Notifications: used to deliver in-app alerts and messages

Each permission is requested only when required for a specific feature. You may revoke any permission at any time through your device's system settings. Revoking certain permissions may limit the functionality of the app.

 

14. Account Termination and Data Deletion

If you choose to delete your Sano account, we will begin the process of removing your personal data from our systems within a reasonable period, typically 30 days. Please note the following:

 Your public profile and content will be removed from the platform immediately upon deletion

 Content shared in conversations with other users may not be retroactively removed from their view

 Certain records may be retained as required for legal, compliance, or fraud prevention purposes

 Anonymous or aggregated data derived from your activity may be retained indefinitely

15. Do Not Track (DNT) Signals

Some browsers transmit Do Not Track (DNT) signals to websites. Because there is currently no industry-wide standard for how services should respond to DNT signals, Sano does not currently alter its data collection practices in response to DNT signals. We will continue to monitor industry developments and may update this policy accordingly.

 

16. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

 The right to know what categories of personal information we collect and how they are used or shared

 The right to delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions

 The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (Sano does not sell personal information)

 The right to correct inaccurate personal information

 The right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information

 The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

17. Privacy Rights for EEA and UK Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, your personal data is processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the UK GDPR. Our lawful bases for processing include:

 Contract performance: processing necessary to provide the services you have requested

 Legitimate interests: processing for fraud prevention, security, and service improvement, balanced against your rights

 Consent: processing based on your explicit agreement, which you may withdraw at any time

 Legal obligation: processing required to comply with applicable laws

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority if you believe your rights under the GDPR have been violated.

 

18. Community Standards and Prohibited Conduct

To maintain a safe and respectful environment for all users, Sano prohibits the following behaviors on the platform:

 Impersonating another person, brand, or entity

 Sharing or soliciting personal information from other users outside of the platform in an unauthorized manner

 Using Sano for commercial solicitation, spam, or automated activity without our authorization

 Attempting to bypass, circumvent, or interfere with the platform's security systems

 Uploading or transmitting viruses, malware, or other malicious code

Violation of these standards may result in account suspension, termination, and referral to law enforcement authorities where appropriate.

 

19. Automated Decision-Making and Profiling

Sano uses automated systems to make certain decisions that may affect your experience on the platform. These include:

 Automated user matching based on preferences, behavior, and location data

 Algorithmic ranking of users shown in your recommendation feed

 Automated content moderation to detect potentially violating content

 Fraud detection and account risk scoring

20. Sensitive Personal Information

We recognize that certain categories of personal information require heightened protection. Sano does not intentionally collect special categories of sensitive data such as racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, or health data, except where necessary to provide the Service or comply with legal requirements. Any sensitive data collected (such as age verification data) is subject to enhanced security controls and access restrictions.

 

21. Feedback, Research, and Surveys

From time to time, we may invite you to participate in voluntary surveys, user research studies, or beta testing programs. Participation is always optional. Any personal information collected as part of such activities will be used solely for research and product improvement purposes. You may opt out of receiving such invitations at any time by adjusting your communication preferences in the app.

 

22. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws applicable to Sano's place of incorporation, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under or in connection with this Privacy Policy shall first be attempted to be resolved through direct communication with our support team. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be subject to binding arbitration or litigation as specified in our Terms of Service.

 

23. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make material changes, we will:

 Post the updated Privacy Policy within the Sano app with a revised Effective Date

 Send you an in-app notification or email alerting you to the changes, where required by law

 Provide a summary of key changes in plain language where feasible

Your continued use of the Sano app after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the revised policy, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.
